Operator; FRS Iberia S.L. The FRS-service between Continental Europe and Morocco has been initiated back in 2000 on a year-round basis.

HSC Tarifa Jet was built in 1997 at the Incat Yards in Tasmania, Australia.

HSC “Tarifa Jet” was delivered by Hobart-based InCat Australia Pty. Ltd. in May 1997 and has most recently operated as “Pescara Jet” for the Italian operator SNAV on a seasonal route between Pescara, Hvar and Spilt in the Adriatic Sea. The catamaran has an overall length of 86.62 meters, a beam of 26.00 m and a draft of 3.62 m. Her gross tonnage amounts 4.995 GT. The machinery consists of four Ruston 20RK270 engines with a total output of 28320 kW (38,500 HP) allowing a maximum service speed of 42 knots. 800 passengers and 185 cars can be accommodated onboard; the spacious cardeck is accessed via two stern ramps.

Construction and acquisition

The ship was constructed by the Australian shipbuilder Incat in Hobart, Tasmania and is leased to the U.S. Navy through Bollinger/Incat of Lockport, Louisiana. It is the second catamaran the Navy has leased to test new technologies and concepts associated with the Chief of Naval Operations’s “Seapower 21″ plan. The contract value for the first year is $21.7 million. The current lease can go out to four years 11 months if all options are exercised.

Swift is the fourth Incat-built high-speed wave piercing catamaran to enter military service, following behind HMAS Jervis Bay, U.S. Army Vessel (USAV) Theater Support Vessel (TSV) 1X Spearhead and Joint Venture.

Design

It is a wave-piercing, aluminum-hulled, commercial catamaran with military enhancements, such as a helicopter flight deck, strengthened vehicle deck, small boat and unmanned vehicle launch and recovery capability, and an enhanced communications suite. It features a new, (more…)

HSV X1 – High Speed Vessel – Wave Piercing Catamaran

HSV-X1 Joint Venture was the name of a cool awesome high speed catamaran passenger/car ferry previously operated by the military of the United States of America. Initially operated by the United States Navy, she was later transferred to the United States Army. This ship has served a deployment in Operation Enduring Freedom, spending time around the Horn of Africa. At the end of its service the ship was returned to its builders for further civilian use.
