The Most Advanced Fishing Vessels in The World

Fishing Vessel Nordborg named as VINGTOR’s Largest ACM Advanced Communications System User

One of the largest VINGTOR ACM Advanced Integrated IP based systems delivered in 2008 was to Hvalnes P/F and their newest vessel F/V Nordborg of the Faroe Islands. Delivered by Tórshavn-based marine electronics firm Vikmar, the 83.5m long purse seiner/pelagic trawler is claimed to be one of the most advanced fishing vessels in the world.

Onboard Electronics

Word has already spread about the vessel’s vast holding and freezing capacities, (RSW hold capacity of 1.230m3 and two freezing holds optimised for pallets with a capacity of 2,500m3 respectively) however little has been revealed about the onboard electronics. The 83.5m long vessel has been fitted with the most modern electronics, communication and fish-finding equipment (more…)

Modern Seiner – Global Seine Fishing Vessel Classification

Seiners

Seiners are fishing vessels which use surrounding and seine nets. Seiners can be contrasted with trawlers. Both these vessels use nets, but a trawler tows the net through the water, whereas a seiner usually surrounds the fish with the net. This is a large group ranging from open boats as small as 10 metres in length, to ocean going vessels. There are also specialised gears that can target demersal species.

Modern Tuna Purseiner – Tuna Purseine Fishing Vessel

Modern Seiners

1. Purse seiners

Are very effective at targeting aggregating  pelagic species near the surface. The seiner circles the shoal with a deep curtain of netting, possibly using bow thrusters for better manoeuvrability. Then the bottom of the net is pursed (closed) underneath the fish shoal by hauling a wire running from the vessel through rings along the bottom of the net and then back to the vessel. The most important part of the fishing operation is searching for the fish shoals and assessing their size and direction of movement. Sophisticated electronics, such as echosounders, sonar, and track plotters, (more…)

Sea Cage Structure – Tuna Farming Technology

Hawaii Sea Cage  for Bigeye Tuna Farming

HAWAII, US – The state’s first bigeye tuna farm has been approved off Big Island. The fish will be hatched at a University of Hawaii lab to reduce the risk of disease but other concerns have been raised.

Hawaii regulators have approved a Honolulu start-up company’s plan to build the nation’s first tuna farm in waters off (more…)

Marine Applications of Aluminum Alloys – Boat Ship Yacht

Complete Tutorial Guide Manual  of Aluminum / Aluminium Alloys  Serries  and grade for Marine Application ; Boat, Ship, Yacht

Aluminum is used in hulls, deckhouses, and hatch covers of commercial ships, as well as in equipment items, such as ladders, railings, gratings, windows, and doors. The major incentive for employing aluminum is its weight saving compared to steel. Because it is common practice to use weldable aluminum alloys having strengths approaching or comparable to mild steel, equal-strength structures can be designed to a weight saving of 55 to 67%. However, to compensate for the lower modulus of elasticity of aluminum and to conform to normal deflection limitations, a somewhat lower, but (more…)
